Effect: A spectator is seated on the stage and presented with an ordinary beer bottle and a half dollar to examine thoroughly. The performer provides a marker with which the spectator distinctly marks the coin. While the seated spectator holds the bottle horizontally in his own hand, the performer, standing behind the assistant, cleanly causes the coin to penetrate through the bottom of the bottle. The spectator retains the bottle and coin and unmistakably and explicitly identifies his mark on the coin that resides within the bottle.
Read that part again. There is no tricky wording or double meaning here.
The performer then causes the coin to penetrate out of the bottle and the objects are given to the spectator to keep as souvenirs.
